Ajenjo, Luis
Chairman of Compaña Chilena de Comunicaciones and Vice-Chairman of the International Association of Broadcasting.
Chilean, Mr Ajenjo has been working in the mass media field – press, radio and TV - since 1978. He contributed to
the development of several media in his country, such as Radio Cooperativa, Diario La Epoca, Radio and Television
Rock&Pop and the magazine Siete+7.

Annan, Kofi A
Secretary-General of the United Nations since 1 January 1997, was the first to be appointed
from the ranks of United Nations staff. Born in 1938, Mr. Annan completed his studies in economics
before joining the United Nations system in 1962. He has served the United Nations in many
capacities, including as Under-Secretary -General for Peacekeeping Operations.
His Millennium Report, published in 2000, stressed the importance of information technology for
development. Mr. Annan and the United Nations were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2001.

Balding, Timothy
Director General of the World Association of Newspapers. At age 16, Mr Balding started his professional life in 1970 as a journalist for the Reading Newspaper Company, where he became Chief Reporter in 1972. He was the political correspondent for Oxford Mail Newspapers and then became Parliamentary Reporter at the House of Commons for the Press Association News Agency. He joined WAN in 1985 ( previously known as FIEJ).

Balima, Serge Théophile
Responsable de la chaire UNESCO en Festivals et Arts Audiovisuels de l’Université de Ouagadougou. Le Professeur Balima a été Directeur de la Télévision Nationale du Burkina Faso entre 1982 et 1985, puis ministre de l'Information et de la Culture entre 1987 et 1989. Il occupa ensuite le poste d'Ambassadeur dans différent pays. Entre 1989 et 1992, il fut nommé Délégué Permanent du Burkina Faso auprès de l'Unesco. Il est co-auteur de "Médias et communica tions sociales au Burkina Faso: approche socio-économique de la circulation de l’information".

Chowdury, Iftekhar
Chairman of the United Nations Committee on Information. Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations. His long career in his country’s foreign service includes assignments as Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva and to Qatar. Ambassador Chowdhury is currently the Chairman of the Committee on Information of the United Nations, as well as Chairman of the Second (Economic) Committee of the 58th United Nations General Assembly. He has an M.A. and PhD in International Relations from theAustralian National University, Canberra.

President of IATAS. Mr Cohen ser ved as President of King World International Productions for 13 years as well as Executive Vice P resident of CBS Broadcast International until his retirement. His previous positions included President, HBO International; President Time-Life Films ; Director of Cultural Programming and International, PBS (Washington, DC), and Special Assistant to the Chair man as well as a Comissioner at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Washington.

Couchepin, Pascal
President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Department of Home Affairs. Born in 1942 in Martigny he studied law at Lausanne University and started his political career in 1968 in his home town. In 1979 he entered the federal arena as a National Councilor. He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. In 1998 he was elected to the Federal Council where he took over the Department of Economic A ffairs. On January 1st 2003 he became head of the Department of Home Affairs.
